Revelations is a pretty good fuck flick. Sexually, Revelations was also pretty good. There’s some very nice variety to the sex, and it moves along nicely with well done camera work and editing. It stumbles a little in the last two scenes, but even when it doesn’t work as well as one might hope it feels like it’s being true to the movie. The bigger problem I had with Revelations, though, is the dubbing. I can handle dubbing in some foreign films and anime (yes, I do prefer subtitles), but here it’s an American cast with the audio dubbed in English and it gave the entire movie a funky feeling to me. To make that feeling worse, it isn’t consistent throughout the movie and leaves some areas with the original audio. Revelations is an interesting adult movie with some nice skill behind the camera, but the English dubbing for an English speaking cast really held back the movie for me.

Currently, most Woodman Entertainment DVDs can be found online for between about $17 and $25 with a few stores offering them for under $20. Rent this one first or aim low as the style might not be for everybody. This is a nicely artistic movie that doesn’t overdo it. There’s a pretty good plot, nice sex, and pretty well done technical aspects that are held back by the dubbing more than anything else. Sadly there isn’t any extras on the American release, which is made all the more sad by the boxcover listing the features on the European two disc set. This is a decent movie, but the overall release could have been better.
